HAPPY FESTIVE SEASON BINGE-WATCHING
It’s finally the start of the festive season for some of us who’ve been working throughout December. For most, the festive season means partying up a storm or being with family. But if you prefer staying indoors, here’s a list of our top 5 Queer TV shows to keep you company. These can be found on Netflix and/or Shomax.
1. The L Word
We didn’t watch this show back in the 90s, we only watched all six seasons this year and absolutely loved it. We heard it’s back and now called ‘The L Word: Generation Q’. So, do yourself a favour and check it out. Here’s the trailer.
2. Euphoria
If you haven’t heard of it, “Euphoria” follows the troubled life of 17-year-old Rue, a drug addict fresh from rehab with no plans to stay clean. Circling in Rue’s orbit are Jules, a transgender girl searching for where she belongs; Nate, a jock whose anger issues mask sexual insecurities; Chris, a football star who finds the adjustment from high school to college harder than expected; Cassie, whose sexual history continues to dog her; and Kat, a body-conscious teen exploring her sexuality. As the classmates struggle to make sense of their futures, the series tackles the teenage landscape of substance-enhanced parties and anxiety-ridden day-to-day life with empathy and candor. Season 1 came out in July 2019 and we’re all waiting in anticipation for season 2.
3. Sense8
You will definitely love this show. It’s about eight strangers around the world who find themselves connected – first by a violent vision, then by their shared ability to connect with one another’s thoughts and actions, and finally by the urgent need to find out what happened and why. Their need to know goes beyond simple curiosity. As they pursue answers, a mysterious organization hunts them down, intent on destroying them.
4. Sex Education
We probably watched this show in one day – that’s how much we enjoyed it. It’s about a socially awkward high school student, Otis who may not have much experience in the lovemaking department, but gives good guidance on the topic in his personal sex ed course living with mom Jean, who is a sex therapist. Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. When his classmates learn about his home life, Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school, so he teams with whip-smart bad girl, Maeve, to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates’ problems. But through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realizes that he may need some therapy of his own.
5. You Me Her
You Me Her centers on a couple take their relationship in a direction they never could have imagined. An impulsive get-together between suburban husband, Jack, and neophyte escort, Izzy, eventually turns into a three-way affair involving Jack’s wife Emma.
