CELEBRATING WORLD AFRO DAY, BECAUSE #BLACKHAIRISROYALTY

Today is World Afro Day and I am so thankful to my friend, Selloane Maletsatsi Moleli, who reminded me of just how beautiful and special my hair is. This is because black hair, especially when it’s grown out without any chemical hair straighteners and relaxing creams, has been seen as ugly or too big, and more recently – frizzy, dull, dry and damaged.

As a black African woman who decided to grow her hair and allow it to flourish in its natural form, it enrages me when we are constantly seen as unprofessional or untidy because of our hair. It makes me wonder why we cannot be seen in the same light as women from other races, who are not told what to do with their hair.

But you know what, I’ve realized that I don’t need validation from anybody, and if you think my hair isn’t beautiful the way it is – then sharp!

As we continue to celebrate our natural hair, no matter what anybody says, I decided to share a few posts of gorgeous natural hair that I saw today under the hashtag #BlackHairIsRoyalty.
